Okay. I admit it. I didn't vote. I told everyone I did, but I didn't. I didn't because I didn't understand all of the issues fully, because I didn't feel an overwhelming urge to support either candidate, and because I was fairly sure that my apathy would not make a dent in Illinois. Also I am lazy. I can't even get my cat flea medicine for crap's sake. She is -covered in fleas-. Anyway, I'm not an informed citizen, and I'd prefer to leave the choice to others who are informed.
Here's the kicker... we can't really really be informed. I mean, we can see what they say on TV and decide on a case by case basis what we like and dislike. We can choose to elect someone based on strong feelings we might have on one issue or another--and moreover believe that they'll make good on what they've said--but as far as knowing everything...
Even if we followed every blog, read every story, watched every TV special for both sides of the election we wouldn't know it all. Campaigns are propaganda anyway. Does anyone know what Bush is doing right now when all the cameras and newspapers have turned a blind eye on him to follow the election? I don't. What about if the cameras are off--what are our candidates doing? Do they speak truth? Do they have extra motives? Do you have to have extra motives to play the game of politics? Are they following the rules? Will they break the rules when we give them the power to play around them?
I don't really like political discussions recently. All I see is people yelling ignorance at each other. Maybe that would change if I saw a really informed and non-heated discussion. Maybe it would change if I were informed. I figure if I were well informed and level-headed, someone would still yell at me and call me an idiot. I don't actually know what I'm typing about. Wish I could just be happy or something. Wish people would make the right choices, wish everyone had the same standard for right, figure we'll make the best of it.
Wish I was making sense right now. Man. I feel like I'd be depressed today no matter what. I don't understand how the country game is played. Hope we have an upswing. Hope everyone who loves each other can get married. Hope nobody decides to abort babies just because they're unwanted. Hope people take responsibility for themselves and each other. Hope people stop calling each other racist. Where do I sign up to vote where I can be both proud of my country and see my best friend's fiance home safely and out of harm's way? Where do I vote so that those who earn their money with hard work can keep it and those who can't earn money no matter how hard they work get support? Where do I vote so that everyone gets healthcare, each child conceived either by accident or on purpose gets to share their smile with the world, is loved? Where do I vote that the leaders of the world put their pride aside and talk to each other, and really listen, and figure out what's best for everyone involved? Where do I vote to send the surpluses that rot to people who need them? Where do I vote to stop people needing to steal, people raping other people, people in positions of power from abusing it?
Let me know when you find that polling place. Until then, I'll exercise my right to vote by not voting when I'm in the dark, and simply trying to do right by my fellow humans.
This has been a blarf.
